Gross Donuts- Post Falls
This is a donut chain that has a couple locations
I am still unsure whether or not I'll be reviewing its other location separately. This shop is open 24 hours during non-pandemic times, which may earn it some points with a late night crowd. I purchased apple fritters as well as their Sunday and Wednesday special -cherry fritters. Both were excellent fritters with a good crunch and fry, and the cherry is a unique flavor. Fritters should be a crunchier, crisper donut as opposed to your fluffier or denser variety.
The maple bars had a rather thin glaze for those like myself that don't like them too sweet. However my mother, who loves maple bars, felt the glaze should be thicker. The dough for these donuts overall (except for the fritters) was more of bready and drier type though than a more moist or dense style donut dough. I consider this a negative. However they offer quite a variety of novelty donuts, and I purchased both a peanut butter triangle (sweet, rich, and a little dry) and a lemon filled. The lemon filled was one of the better in the box, with the acid of the filling cutting its sugar-coated sweetness.
The chocolate glazed bar wasn't anything spectacular but was good in its classic sense. The bready airiness of the dough made these more plain style donuts excellent for dipping in or drinking with milk or coffee. Overall I was pleased and enjoyed the box but I would normally prefer a less dry dough, and once any of the donuts were cut they did experience staleness that made dipping in milk almost necessary.
Overall, I give a 7.6/10.
